The dietary guidelines lawsuit

Where it stands, Sep 3, 2026 PCRM's lawsuit noted it has challenged federal dietary guidelines on similar grounds four times before, winning in 2000.

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine sued HHS and USDA to withdraw the 2025-2030 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, arguing a panel dominated by meat, dairy and low-carb industry ties rewrote them behind closed doors in three months, replacing roughly two years of independent scientific review. The fight is whether a court orders the guidelines withdrawn and what dietary guidance millions of Americans and federal food programs are left with in the meantime.
